The first picture is of a beautiful creek in Colorado that I was fortunate enough to do a little fly-fishing on this summer…..Turkey Creek, just outside of Pagosa. I didn’t catch anything on that particular creek….but one of the things I love about fly-fishing, is that when surrounded by all that beauty, catching fish is secondary to soaking up the cold water and fresh mountain air.
The second picture is of a rock in the middle of that creek….and if you look closely, you’ll see a couple of small trees growing out of a crack in that rock.
Isn’t nature amazing and perfect? Those little seeds had no choice as to where they landed. Many of those seeds’ buddies had landed in fertile soil….in an environment that made it much easier for them to germinate and prosper than it was for these little dudes, they landed on a freakin rock in the middle of a creek! But, these particular seeds didn’t pout about it, didn’t quit, weren’t jealous of their buddies, or felt sorry for themselves because of their circumstances. All that mattered to those seeds was that they DID have an opportunity to grow and add beauty to wherever they landed. They could’ve looked over at their buddies laying in the rich forest floor and tried to make their way over to join them. But, had they tried that, they no doubt would’ve been swept away in the swift water of the creek because their little seed arms weren’t long enough or strong enough to swim thru the running water.
So instead, they sat there and did their job. They germinated and grew, till some goofball from Texas came along and took their picture. Now, those little trees have a story written about them and are being seen by millions and millions around the world via the Internet! (well, maybe we are not quite up to a million subscribers on this little blog yet, but the lesson remains the same).
The lesson? There is an old saying….something like, ‘make the big time where you are’. You know, old sayings become old sayings because there is usually a lot of truth and wisdom behind them.
